about

Our latest album, “Letters”, came together in part during pandemic lockdown and developed over the last two years as the most collaborative project for The Current to date. We circled the wagons a bit and bore down on the idea of staying as relentlessly positive as we could in the face of adversity, and created an album we feel is uplifting which offers a message of hope. Despite being under quarantine, and not being able to rehearse in person, the band wrote these songs and arranged them online in shared programs and document folders, with written charts and sheet music. When we went into the studio to record them, they were fully realized and ready to go, all we had to do was lay them down. Granted, there was some tweaking and last minute arranging, and the band always leaves room for “studio magic” to unfold. This is the idea that you don’t arrange everything so much that it takes some of the life out of it. We want the music to live and breathe as we do and reflect that coming together. It’s also the most expansive release to date with 15 tracks. As the album took form, it became clear that each song is a kind of love letter to the listener. The subject matter varies from song to song, but the main idea is simple: it’s all going to be alright, we’ve got love, each other and we’re moving forward. Fifteen messages of hope, holding a mirror up to a beleaguered audience, but an audience that is resilient and strong. It’s our hope that the listener sees their own strength and love through these songs, and uses it as inspiration to move forward and do great things.
